How to Remove XP Anti Virus

While most malware and virus programs make no pretense about their purpose, some pose as friendly applications while using your machine for nefarious purposes. XP Antivirus is one of these--it's a malware program that poses as a virus scanner. XP Antivirus will spam your computer with fake threat warnings in an attempt to coerce you into purchasing the full version of the program and needs to be removed. You will need to obtain and install anti-malware software, such as Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (a free program) to eliminate it

Using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

1 Install and open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware--it's a free malware-removal program. The program will perform an automatic update for the latest version

2 Select the option to "Perform Full Scan" and press "Scan."

3 Press the "OK" button to display the results of the scan.

4 Choose "Remove Selected" to remove all malware detected on your computer, including XP Antivirus.

5 Reboot your machine. XP Antivirus should be gone

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your antivirus and anti-malware software up-to-date to combat threats as they arise.
  • Run a scan at least once a week.
