How to Remove a Music Virus

If you are having trouble playing some or all of your music files, your computer may be infected with one of the wide array of viruses that go after music files, folders and applications. Moreover, that same virus could be causing internal damage you aren't even aware of. It's difficult to pinpoint the specific virus affecting your music but Microsoft includes a virus protection tool with Windows that will get your music playing again and protect your PC from further damage.

Instruction

  1. Run Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool. Select "Run" from your "Start" menu and type "MRT." This application comes preinstalled with Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 computers. If the virus is preventing you from accessing the "Run" function, download a new copy of the program from the link in Resources.
  2. Click "Next."
  3. Select "Full Scan." While this takes longer than the default "Quick Scan," it presents a higher likelihood of removing a music virus.
  4. Click "Next." Wait for the tool to finish the scan.
  5. Follow the prompts that appear to remove any viruses or bugs that could be affecting music on your computer.
  6. Click "Finish."
  7. Restart your computer

Tips & Warnings

If you are only having problems with a single music file, the above method may solve your problem. However, there is a chance the issue is not a virus at all but rather corruption of the file itself. In this case, you will have to contact the original source of the file for a replacement.
