How to Remove a Genuine Virus in Windows

The Windows Genuine Disadvantage virus is a particular pesky piece of malware that infects computers running Windows XP. When the virus infects your machine, it essentially makes Windows run as though it is not verified. When this virus first came into existence in 2006 it was a bothersome, almost crippling virus. However, with antivirus software always advancing, it is easy to remove this malware from your machine.

  1. Download and install an antivirus program. Free antivirus programs are available from Malwarebytes, LavaSoft and Spybot, and most use similar installation processes. Double-click the .exe file, agree to the terms of service and click "Install."
  2. Double-click the desktop icon of your antivirus software or select it from the Start menu. The first time your antivirus program boots, it will take a few moments for it to fully load.
  3. Click the "Scan" button. Allow several minutes for your antivirus program to scan through your PC. When it is complete, you will get a list of "Quarantined" files.
  4. Scroll through the Quarantine list to locate a file called "wgavn." Check the box next to it and click "Delete Quarantined Files" to remove it from your PC.
